First Anniversary of ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’

Today is the first anniversary of Where the Crawdads Sing. I am grateful to my agent for finding Putnam (the best and most fun publishers), who launched Crawdads with a fabulous tour last August.

Only two weeks later, Reese Witherspoon chose my novel as her September Book; two weeks after that it landed on the NYT Bestseller List and is still there.

Book sellers, giant ones and tiny ones, recommended Crawdads. And then came my readers. I treasure the connection I feel with you all. You have filled my life.

Sometime along the way, Reese announced that she’s producing the movie! CBS Sunday Morning featured the story. Then Crawdads reached #1. What a year!

I cannot even express my gratitude, but I’ll try with a simple ‘thank you!’

With Reese in LA

While I was in LA, planning the movie adaptation for Where the Crawdads Sing, Reese made these two short videos. She held up her phone as we were walking out of the restaurant onto the terrace and she and I said a few words.

Reese has done so much for women writers! I am grateful to her and all of you.

Crawdads Remains #1 at NY Times, IndieBound, & Amazon & now at USA Today, too

CBS Sunday Morning: Delia Owens on "Where the Crawdads Sing"

It’s almost in Canada, with a view of Montana. That’s how remote this northern corner of Idaho really is, worlds away from almost everything, except nature. For writer Delia Owens, it’s heaven. Wildlife is her church, vast isolation her muse.

Does she get lonely out here? “I do. I get so lonely sometimes I feel like I can’t breathe.”

”But you like a part of that though, right?” asked correspondent Lee Cowan.

”I do, I do. And I decided to write a book about it.”

That book, “Where the Crawdads Sing,” has become a phenomenon. At a recent book fair in Savannah, Georgia, she had readers lined up around the block just to meet her.
